This information has been gathered from across Europe and elsewhere and very often with the assistance of present day descendants of these soldiers. In addition, my own collection includes first edition memoirs of Generale Auguste de Colbert up to the time he was shot dead by rifleman Tom Plunkett, later written by his son le Marquis de Colbert-Chabanais, Generale Arrighi de Casanova, duc de Padoue and Generale Claude-Pierre Comte Pajol to name but three. I also have memoirs/biographies on many other Generals including, Fernig, Milhaud, Claparede, Bertrand, Compans, Curial, Fournier-Sarloveze, Daumesnil, Bessieres, Thiebault, MacDonald, Auguste de Colbert, Drouot, Hogendorp, Brune, Lannes, Massena, Murat, Ney, Ruffin, Savary, Rapp, Hugo, Eble, Cambronne, Lejeune, Couloumy, Chastel, Jacquemard, Paulet, Le Marois, Marescot, Lauer, Hastrel, Ameil, Junot, Augereau, Charpentier, Carra Saint-Cyr, LaSalle, Klein, Bernadotte, Berthier, Prince Eugene, Senarmont, de Tromelin, Claude-Etienne Guyot, Manhes, Mouton Lobau and others.

These, you will understand, are mostly in French and I have to admit that my knowledge of this language is not as good as it should be although my reading of it has improved considerably. However, I am greatly indebted to Miss Jean Lucas of Romford, Essex for her help with translations over these many years.

The occasional enquiry concerning a general here and there was received on a fairly regular basis, and I was able to assist a number of people. The publication of my e-mail address and description of my activities, in a 1999 edition of "First Empire" galvanised world-wide interest in my field. As a result some 60 officers are currently the subject of research for colleagues in the USA, Irish Republic, Hong Kong, Belgium, Holland and elsewhere, as well as in the United Kingdom. Mostly, I guess, the detail is required for a proposed book. Those awaiting results will understand that research does take time, and although I have a platform of 500 files to work from, that still leaves some 800/900 general officers on whom I have no files as yet. I haven't even started to look at the regimental commanders or indeed the foreign generals eg the Saxons, Wurttembergers, Bavarians, Italians, and Polish etc. Patience is the watchword here, for I will get round to them.
